I’ve just been reading Patrick Veitch’s book – Enemy Number 1
For those of you who don’t know, Patrick Veitch is a very successful bettor and has taken the bookies for over £10 Million (maybe more?) in his career as a professional punter.
You can pick up a copy of the book here: http://WinnersOdds.com/Enemy-Number-1/
He doesn’t spill many beans as to how he makes his selections – (other than putting in a lot of time and hard work watching video replays and studying form) – so if that’s all your looking for give, then give it a miss.
The book tells more about the story of his life, from how he got into betting at a very young age, and how he goes about staking so much money using a large team of runners to place his bets.
He also tells the story about how he had to go into hiding for about a year, when through know fault of his own, a dangerous gangster (previously suspected to be involved in a gangland execution of a local club owner) tried to extort a lot of money from him.
70 grand or your legs?
That’s not the kind of question you ever want to hear.
And I said above, “through no fault of his own”. But being a young, well known professional punter, driving around in both a Mercedes and a Ferrari (although, not at the same time…) does make you a bit of walking target.
There’s an important lesson in that. — Don’t get too flash with your cash.
It’s unlikely that you or I will ever make anywhere close to the amount of money Patrick has from horse racing. But if you’re willing to put in the time and study required, it’s very possible to make a good living betting on the horses.
The best way to do so, but also the most difficult and time consuming, is to deeply specialise in one area of racing, learn it inside out and pick your own selections to bet on.
But if you can’t do that, the next best thing is to back the selections of a successful bettor who does.
Such as any of the the tipsters I recommend here: http://WinnersOdds.com/Tipster-Portfolio
Until next time,
Kenny Turnbull
