Cheltenham Analysis: Gold Cup

silviniaco conti

silviniaco contiBoth Balder Succes and Taquin du Seuil ran a disappointing race today with Balder Succes jumping very poorly meaning both the advised bets yesterday lost.Let see if we can turn it around tomorrow.

Tomorrow is the last day of Cheltenham which means only one thing. It’s gold cup day! I’ve been looking over the horses that will be racing, Here are my thoughts.

Silviniaco Conti

The bookies favourite, Silviniaco Conti will be hoping to win this year after falling back in 2013 and finishing 4th last year where he looked set to win but drifted badly on the run in. He has been running well and won his last three grade 1 chases and is now running with cheekpieces which should hopefully stop him drifting.

Current Odds: 5.00 betvictor, betway, betbright, 32red,888

A young horse with a lot still to prove has become second favourite in the betting after an impressive win at Gowran Park back in January. He jumped poorly at Cheltenham last year and eventually fell. We will see how much he has improved tomorrow. If he can jump well he could be a competitor.

Current Odds: 9.00 General Price

Many Clouds

Has been on fantastic form recently winning his last three races in which he has beaten a few of the horses in this race including Djakadam and Smad Place. If the ground suits on the day he’ll run a very strong race

Current Odds: 10.00 General Price

Won at Kelso back in February but has had a mixed season. He has a 2 for 2 winning record at Cheltenham proving he can beat large fields of quality horses over long distances. We will see tomorrow if he can make it 3 for 3.

Current Odds: 10.00 General Price

A novice chaser and two time winner at Cheltenham, Coneygree has been on excellent form recently. The forecast is for rain tonight at Cheltenham which should suit Coneygree however he is untested over this distance. This will be Coneygree’s toughest race to date but he is definitely a major competitor in this race and should not be overlooked.

Current Odds: 11.00 General Price

Lord Windermere

Lord Windermere, winner of last years Gold Cup at odds of 20/1, hasn’t won a race since then but this was also the case last year so shouldn’t be overlooked, however, I don’t think he is a quality enough horse to be capable of winning this two years on the trot.

Current Odds: 15.00 sporting bet, 32red, 888
