Cheltenham Analysis: Ryanair Chase

balder succes

balder succesDodging Bullets proved he can hold his form into the spring today when he won the Queen Mother Champion Chase.

The odds shortened on our each way selection, Sizing Europe, overnight to a more sensible 26.00 but the old horse didn’t have what it took on the day having a couple of bad jumps and simply not having the stamina to keep up.

Our other selection Sire De Grugy ran a good race but didn’t have a good enough finish in him and ended up 4th. This gives us a loss of 1.5pts today leaving us with a measley 0.83pts profit. There are still two days of Cheltenham to go though so lets hope we can get a couple of winners.

Today I’m taking a look at tomorrows Ryanair Chase (2:40 Cheltenham 11/03/15). Here’s my thoughts on some of tomorrows competitors.

Don Cossack

Winner of his last 4 races, Don Cossack is the bookies favourite for the Ryanair chase. Don fell last time out at Cheltenham in last years RSA chase but has developed a lot since then and might have what it takes to win the Ryanair Chase this year.

Current Odds: 5.00  888 sport, betway, 32red

Ma Filluele

Second favourite Ma Filluele hasn’t won a race since last April at Aintree. He is also yet to win at Cheltenham and lost to third in betting, Balder Succes, at Ascot last month. He is a good horse but due to the reasons stated I think his current odds are too short for a bet.

Current Odds: 6.00 General Price

Balder Succes

Winner of his last two grade 1 chases in January and February, Balder Succes looks set to win this race. He ran a cracking race when last out at Ascot in February beating both Ma Filleule and Balleycasey in style. Balder Succes has yet to win at Cheltenham but I have a sneaky suspicion that this could be his year.

Current Odds: 8.00 General Price

Taquin Du Seuil

Although Taquin hasn’t been on the best form at the moment he is a two time winner at Cheltenham and has won 5 out of 8 races over this distance. The going should suit him tomorrow so there is a good chance he’ll finish near the front. Worth an each way bet if the price is right.

Current Odds: 15.00 William Hill

Ballycasey

Ballycasey looked a good bet in this race about a month back. Since then he ran at Ascot where he made a few mistakes and ended up coming third behind Balder Sucess and Ma Filleuele. He beat Don Cossack in three separate races in 2014 but just hasn’t been on full form recently. If Ballycasey can run at 95%+ and not make any mistakes I’m confident he can beat the favourite here and maybe win. “If” being the key word.

Current Odds: 26.00 General Price
